Things Susan Didn't Want Me To Tell You

Over the years many things have come into my hands as I represented Susan and not all of them are nice things. It was always Susan's decision that these things be left alone. Susan felt there were different ways of living one's life - you could either deal with the good things you can do in the world, or you can dwell on the bad things other people do.  One of those you have complete control over.  One of those you have no control over at all. And in the end, as Susan reiterated to me over and over, it is what YOU do that defines you, not what other people do.

With that in mind it is none the less enjoyable for me to present these things.

Prosecutor Steven Kay Caught Letting Serial Rapist Go In Exchange For  Lying In Other Cases

At Susan's 2009 Parole Hearing Jay Sebring's nephew, Anthony DiMaria, stated that prosecutor Steven Kay was his "hero" because Steven Kay had spent his entire career with the DA's Office prosecuting cases and advocating Susan's continued incarceration, and had even passed up promotions to do so.

The truth is Steven Kay did not "pass up promotions" in order to continue as a prosecutor,  he was promoted to a high ranking administrator in the LA DA's Office when it was discovered that some of his biggest court-room victories were achieved by making deals to release a diagnosed serial sexual predator. The evidence suggests Kay was demoted back to a prosecutor  once these deals were discovered by the media.

In an article by Los Angeles Times writer Ted Rohrlich, it was disclosed that at least ten women were kidnapped or raped because Steven Kay and the LA DA's Office got Stephen Jesse Cisneros released... twice.

Cisneros had already been in prison as a mentally disordered sex offender sentenced to 1-14 years in prison in a maximum security mental hospital. He had been released after 4 years. Only months later he was arrested for  attempted rape. This is what he was in jail for  when the LA Sheriff's Office moved a suspect in another case into his area of the jail because that "section of the jail [was] reserved for informants."  In what Cisneros later called his "big break"  he was told if he stated the suspect had given him "all the gory details" he would be freed. In one of the continuing farces in American Justice, District Attorneys are still allowed to pay jail-house informants with absolute immunity for their past crimes if they testify under oath that someone else in jail spontaneously "confessed" to them. Steven Kay himself wrote the letter to the Judge confessing that without Cisneros's claims of a confession Kay might not have been successful in convicting the other men. (One was given 45 years in prison, the other is on death row.)

The Judge in the case stated that before Kay intervened the Judge was convinced Cisneros belonged in prison, and only "reluctantly" agreed to set him free and only due to Kay's request. Even LA prosecutors state Cisneros was looking at imprisonment "for as long as [we] can keep him in prison," and the prosecutor handling Cisneros's case said he was someone with "a high potential for danger."

In addition to this, when Kay had Cisneros released, there were the reports of three court appointed psychiatrists that Cisneros should be back in a hospital, the request of the State Probation Department who did not want him out, and more than ten other physicians and outpatient programs all of whom agreed that "the general consensus... is that the defendant is not suitable or amenable to outpatient therapy" and that allowing him access to the public would be a danger to the community. The Probation Department investigator noted candidly that they did not have the ability to supervise someone like Cisneros.

In April 1980 Cisneros was released at Kay's request, and according to Court records within a few months Cisneros was attacking women again. He was arrested in early 1981 for more sexual assaults.  But now he knew how to get out.

Cisneros contacted the DA's Office and claimed he had a confession from a murder suspect. Though the DA's Office later admitted they did not need Cisneros's testimony, they decided it would help their case. By this time at least two more psychiatrists had informed the DA's Office that Cisneros was a "pathological liar." The DA's Office used his testimony anyway. (The suspect was convicted and sentenced to life.)

Cisneros was released again as part of deals with the DA's Office which the Court Commissioner stated "horrified" him.

Cisneros was arrested again for raping and robbing in 1984, but the DA's Office declined to prosecute. He claims this was because of his prior testimony. He was finally arrested in 1985 as the "Riverbed Rapist," and was sentenced to 70 years in prison.

Cisneros now admits all the "confessions" he gave Kay and the DA's Office were lies. He says he gave them simply because the DA's Office promised he'd be freed if he testified their suspects confessed to him..

When confronted with his successful attempts to have Cisneros released, Kay stated that the two men he was trying to convict (who he'd confessed a  jury might not have believed were guilty without Cisneros) were more dangerous, and that the ten women who were assaulted, kidnapped and raped were "just a small, teeny little offshoot."

It was shortly after this story was uncovered, I believe, that the "hero" Steven Kay was demoted back to a prosecutor - a position he never again rose above in his 30+ year career with the LA DA's Office. I was told he was also transferred to the DA's Compton office, which also represented a fall as far from the high-profile LA cases as was humanly possible without being fired.

Bill Nelson Charged With Molesting Two 14-Year Olds, Pleads No Contest

Bill Nelson was a self-styled "Manson expert" who wrote self-published books. He claimed to be an ex-secret service member who had walked in on various ex-presidents having sex in the oval office. In 1997 he wrote a book claiming Bruce Davis was the Zodiac killer, and even claimed to have a "lost Zodiac letter" to prove it.

His tactic was to come up with ridiculous theories about Charles Manson and possible connections to other crimes, and then to accuse the police of not caring when they didn't investigate. He often went on TV (until the networks learned he was a nut)  and accused the various police departments of ignoring his "facts." At one point he was in close association with the prosecutors and the victims' families in this case (once again, until they realized he was a nut). But with their help he was often able to pressure local police into investigating his wild claims - which never uncovered anything. He would then use the fact that the police had investigated as "proof" that his claims bore merit.

In the mid 1990's he was successful in slandering Charles Watson, which resulted in Watson being transferred out of the medium security prison which his 20+ years of perfect behavior qualified him for, and into a maximum security institution. Shortly afterward he started attacking Susan. Though I do not remember much of what he did, because I do not have time for people like that, I do remember he asserted that Susan and I were not legally married because the minister who'd done the ceremony didn't have the right credentials. The State assured Susan and me that as far as they were concerned the minister was accredited.

About this time, an anonymous package showed up in my mailbox. Inside were the court records of Nelson's criminal record regarding his molestation of two 14 year olds. Here is a summary of the documents I was given:

Personal Information on R. William Nelson

Criminal Complaint (11/20/81) - Three counts of committing a lewd and lascivious act upon a child under the age of 14.

Preliminary Hearing (11/6-16/81) - It was determined that R William Nelson should be tried on 2 counts of committing a lewd and lascivious act upon a child under the age of 14.

Information (11-25-81) - The State's evidence against Nelson.

Defendant's motion to set aside the Information - Nelson tried to avoid trial by appealing the decision of the Court in the Preliminary Hearing, claiming there wasn't enough reliable evidence to warrant a trial.

Opposition to Defendant's motion to set aside the Information - The State argued the defendant's motion should be denied.

Defendant's motion is denied (2/3/82)

Defendant pleads Not Guilty

Defendant's motion to dismiss is denied

Trial date set

Trial date continued (put off until) 3/22/82

Defendant avoids trial by changing his plead from Not Guilty to No Contest. The Court agrees to drop the charge to one count of soliciting a lewd and lascivious act with a child under the age of 14. Nelson is fined $500, given 1 year summary probation, ordered to report to Probation Officer, ordered to register under Penal Code 290, attend counseling as directed by Probation Officer, and can not leave state without permission.

Probation Order (7/23/82) - showing terms of probation.

So I took the information and put it on the internet. I even advertised it on Ebay and offered it to anyone willing to pay the cost of copying and postage. People loved it. I didn't know how many people disliked this guy until then. Nelson was infuriated and even contacted a lawyer who told him there was nothing he could do - it was all public record. I probably still have copies of all these documents somewhere if anyone would like a copy.

By the end of the 1990's Nelson was no longer able to con TV producers or prosecutors into believing he was an "expert" on this case. We were given reports he was trying to find a buyer for his "collection." As far as we know, he never did. No one cared. Nelson is reported to have passed away about ten years ago.

Bill Nelson's legacy lives on in Debra Tate's (Sharon Tate's sister) successful attempts to get the LA DA's Office and the LA Sheriff's department to go out into Death Valley to look for the "three bodies buried in the desert." After a much publicized expedition, the LA DA's Office investigators announced their forensic equipment had determined where the bodies were. Nancy Grace announced with glee that Susan would be executed. The next day the Sheriffs dug all day in the 120 degree heat and then announced there was nothing there. (In the aftermath LA Law Enforcement Officials stated they would start an investigation into why the County's cadaver-sniffing dog was wrong and why the dirt in Death Valley produced false positives in all  their forensic equipment. Let's all hope this isn't the forensic "evidence" they use to put people in prison.)

Debra Tate Thinks It Shouldn't Be Illegal To Sodomize 13 Year Old Girls.

On September 24th, 2009, Sharon Tate's sister, Debra Tate, appeared on the Today show to argue that Sharon Tate's ex-husband Roman Polanski shouldn't be arrested for raping a 13-year-old girl back in 1977 because "Roman is a brilliant director," and a "philanthropist," a "humanitarian" and a "good guy."

"It was rape, but it wasn't rape."

She went on to clarify.   "There's rape, and then there's
rape."

"It was a consensual matter."    And we should just take her word for it because, as she explains,    "I am a victim's advocate, and I know the difference."

Ms. Tate implied the Courts had determined the sex was not forced. This is not true. The truth is that the charges were reduced to statutory rape in return for Polanski agreeing to plead guilty. Instead he fled the country. What was determined was that the 13-year-old was on drugs and alcohol at what was supposed to be a professional photoshoot, and that Polanski had both vaginal and anal sex with the girl, after raping her orally.  In fact, according to the victim in an op-ed piece she did for the Los Angeles Times,;

"It was not consensual sex by any means. I said no, repeatedly, but he wouldn't take no for an answer. I was alone and I didn't know what to do. It was scary and, looking back, very creepy."

Debra Tate went on to say the fact the U.S. still intends to prosecute Polanski for this rape proves to her that "the justice system is broken"!

It should be pointed out that Ms. Tate has a daughter of her own, and one has to wonder how she'd feel if someone had "consensual" vaginal, oral and anal sex with her daughter when she was 13 while her daughter said no repeatedly.

More than anything else this shows that Ms. Tate has, as Susan always stated, suffered an incredible loss which none of us can imagine and which is just as real to her today as it was forty years ago. That is completely understandable and God willing none of us will ever have to find out what she has gone through. But it is just as clear that she is no longer of a sound mind, and that she is NOT a victims' advocate. She is a "Debra Tate advocate." And when she wants something (the return to LA of a highly decorated film director who could give her and her family an "in" once again) she doesn't care about victims at all.
