Free Outreach
Free help for those involved in social work, working
with children, young adults, and those involved in community betterment
programs.
Susan has always been interested in
contributing to the community, both inside and outside of prison. One of the
most effective ways she can do this is by counseling and warning young people
about the dangers of drugs, gangs, cults, and getting involved with illegal
activities.
The truth is that most young people will never need the type of warning that
Susan offers. Luckily in today's world there are school counselors, church
youth ministers, and people in the community who contribute their time and
talents to youth groups in order to see that young people have the guidance
they need to avoid these danger areas. Unfortunately there are still young
people who fall through the cracks. It is these people who Susan may have a
chance to reach.
Over the years Susan has been contacted by police officers, State social
workers, concerned parents and family members, and even the Department of the
Treasury, Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and the International
Association of Chiefs of Police, asking for advice and help in reaching
people immersed in drugs or gangs or cults.
Sometimes a child or young person who thinks they've heard it all, and who
doesn't respect or won't respond to the established members of our community,
will listen to someone who honestly does know how bad it can get. Susan has
the unfortunate advantage of being one of the few people in the world to whom
a young person honestly can not say “you haven’t had it as bad as
I have.” Unfortunately, by the time Susan reached Death Row at
the ripe old age of 23, she’d had it worse than most people have ever
imagined... and she survived. What’s more, she went back and got her High
School degree, and then a College degree, and now she contributes to an
incredible array of social programs both in and out of prison. What she can
give to lost young people is more than understanding. She can give them proof
that no matter what they’re going through they can survive it, but that
they don’t want to do it the way Susan did.
To this end Susan has asked that certain of her youth outreach tools be made
available to youth ministers, youth pastors, youth counselors, and community
social workers free of charge.
In particular, Susan has produced a series of art prints depicting the stark
conditions of her Prison cell. These reproductions of the artwork come with
descriptions of the prison system and are intended to catch the eyes of young
people and, hopefully, to make them think about their life-choices and the
opportunities (and responsibilities) they have in a free society.
Copies of these prints can be seen in the Artwork section of this site, the
series is titled Windows 2000. For full-color, 8x10 copies of these prints
and their accompanying text, simply write to us and state the type of work
you do and who you hope these will help, and we will have a set sent out to
you for free with Susan's blessings. Just write to;

A society can spend its resources
either treating people after they fall into trouble, or incarcerating them
once their problems become social problems, or it can spend some of its resources
on at-risk young people in hopes that they can move successfully beyond
difficulty stages to contribute positively to society instead of becoming a
liability.
