Support for Parole

The California Legislature has determined that the Parole Board must take into account support that an inmate has when they determine whether the inmate is suitable for parole. Anyone who wishes to lend such support to Susan can either write a letter to the Parole Board directly, or to Susan’s legal representatives to be given to the Board, or even directly to Susan herself. Susan has been blessed over the years to have received support from people she's met and helped both in and out of prison, people who have read her book or who read it years ago and felt it made a change in their lives, ministers and youth counselors who have been able to use her testimony and example both as inspiration and as a cautionary tale to young people who are going the wrong way or who are hard to reach, and especially from people asking for advise and help in dealing with young people who have developed the misguided idea that Charles Manson is "neat." Susan's ability to talk to just about anyone, no matter where they come from or how difficult their past has been, and encourage them that if she was able to turn her life around they too can, has allowed her to contribute to those most in need - to those who society might otherwise overlook.

Susan’s legal representatives welcome support letters and support messages. If you wish to send a letter of support but do not want your name given to the California Department of Corrections or the Parole Board, simply state that and your name will be withheld. Letters of support can be sent to;

James W. Whitehouse
32742 Alipaz #65
San Juan Capistrano, CA, 92675

Such letters can also be sent directly to the Parole Board at;

Board of Prison Terms and Parole
Chairperson
1515  “K”  ST., SUITE 600
SACRAMENTO, CA. 95814

Or they can be sent to the California Department of Corrections at;

California Department of Corrections
PO Box 942883
Sacramento, CA, 94283-0001

[Letters sent directly to the CDC should be carbon-copied to either Susan or her representatives, as sometimes letters of support for inmates get "lost" by the CDC and they never end up in the inmate's file.]

Letters of support (or simply words or encouragement and support) may also be sent directly to Susan at;

Ms. Susan Atkins
#08304    MA-55-L
16756 Chino-Corona Rd.
Corona, CA, 92880-9508

Letters Susan has received in the past

NOTE:  It had been my intent to include here copies of letters Susan has received from people thanking her for her help in their lives and expressing their support for her, but Susan has determined that such letters should  be private and so I have instead decided to post two letters from Government Agencies asking Susan for her help.
